Embedded Fractional Engineering
This is the core of what I do. I join your team on a monthly retainer, 15 to 50 hours a month. I’m in your codebase, your Slack, your PRs. I make architectural decisions, write production code, and unblock your team on the hard stuff.
I produce more than you’d expect from a part-time engineer because of how I work. I’ve built an AI-native development practice (specs, test harnesses, parallel coding agents, human review) that means a single fractional engineer delivers at a rate that surprises people. The output is real, tested, production code.
Minimum engagement: 3 months. That’s enough time to get context and deliver real value.
What this looks like in practice:
- Architecture decisions and production code, not just advice
- Infrastructure: AWS, GCP, Terraform, Pulumi, CI/CD pipelines
- Backend services, security tooling, cloud-native architecture
- AI agent tooling built into your codebase so your whole team ships faster, not just me
Team Engagements
Some projects need more than one person. I maintain a bench of senior engineers I’ve worked with over the years. When a project calls for it, I staff a small team, lead the engagement personally, and make sure everyone works with the same AI-native discipline and quality bar.
This isn’t agency staffing. I pick the engineers by name based on what your project needs. I stay in the code alongside them. You get a team that works like a well-run startup engineering org, not a body shop.
AI-Native Development Assessment
Most engineering teams that think they’re “using AI” are stuck at Level 2. They’ve got Copilot, maybe Claude, and they feel faster. They don’t know what Level 3 or 4 looks like. The jump is uncomfortable because it changes the developer’s role from writer to reviewer to architect.
I’ve made that transition myself. I can show your team what the next levels look like and help them get there. By shipping alongside them, not running a workshop.
Who this is for
You need senior output without a senior salary. You’re a 5 to 15 person company. You can’t justify a $300K staff engineer full-time, but you need someone who can make architectural decisions, not just take tickets. I work 15 to 50 hours a month embedded in your team at a fraction of that cost.
Your team is stuck at “spicy autocomplete.” Your developers use AI tools but the process hasn’t actually changed. PRs look the same. Velocity hasn’t meaningfully shifted. You’ve heard the hype but you’re not seeing 5 to 10x. I can show you what the next levels look like because I’ve been through them.
You just raised a round and need to scale. Your prototype works. Now you need to turn it into something that handles real users, passes a security audit, and onboards new engineers without a week of tribal knowledge transfer.
You need a small team, not a big agency. Your project needs more than one engineer but you don’t want to manage a vendor with 200 people and a project manager who’s never written code. I lead a curated bench of senior engineers I’ve worked with before, across backend, infrastructure, mobile, and AI/ML. I staff the team, set the technical direction, and stay hands-on in the code. You get named engineers, not a rotation.
